Patent Attorney John Lynn

Professional Bio

John Lynn is a business focused, patent lawyer in solo practice in Austin, Texas.

Prior to becoming a solo practitioner in 2014 he spent over 25 years practicing as an in-house lawyer with large companies or as a business owner in IP focused businesses.

From 2008 through mid-2014, Lynn worked for Capital Southwest Corporation as an IP scout and as an IP consultant to CSW and a handful of their subsidiary companies. In addition, he sits on the boards of a number of startup companies based on his own patents.

From 2003 through 2008, Lynn was Founder and President of Squid Soap, LLC. Based largely on the patent portfolio, Squid Soap was sold in a seven figures deal.

From 1997 through 2003, Lynn was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of DuPont Photomasks, Inc (DPI). Lynn led the company's legal team, and advised senior management on a wide variety of legal and strategic issues, including patent law, general business, joint ventures, securities, litigation, employment, privacy, compliance, licensing, environmental, contracting and related matters. During the last year of his work with DPI, at Lynn’s request, he went into a business development role looking for potential acquisitions with strong IP.

From 1985 through 1997, Lynn worked as a corporate lawyer for DuPont. In addition to intensive training as a patent lawyer, Lynn also worked in a variety of other legal arenas including M&A, international, contracts, sourcing, environmental, administrative, HR and so forth. The highlight of his career with DuPont was a three years assignment in Geneva, Switzerland in the mid-90s.

From 1980 through 1982, Lynn worked as a chemical engineer doing both process and project work for DuPont at the Belle Plant.

John Lynn sits on the Board of Directors of the following companies: Enlyton Inc., Squid Soap, LLC, FloTime LCC, Soap Time, LLC and the Central Texas Angel Network. Lynn is a member of the West Virginia State Bar and is also a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Reg. No. 33,193).
