Tell Us Your Idea
Discovery Alliance is interested in reviewing ideas from a variety of sources. If you have an invention which you think may be of interest to us, we'd like to hear from you. There are two categories of intellectual property and they are handled differently.
PUBLISHED
Submitting published intellectual property such as an issued patent or a published patent application is easy. Simply send us an email from the link below that includes either the patent number or publication number and a brief description of the subject invention. Please be careful not to include information which is confidential in your summary. It's that easy. We'll be back to you within one to two weeks with an initial indication of either potential interest or lack of interest.
UNPUBLISHED
Submitting ideas which are not published is a little more involved. In order to review unpublished inventions, the inventor must sign and return our Idea Submission Agreement. To submit your idea print out the agreement (pdf link below), sign it and include it with the submission of your idea. The form is self explanatory and includes mailing information. Unpublished ideas sent to us without the standard Idea Submission Agreement will not be reviewed.
Before submitting a novel unpublished idea, you should seriously consider protecting your idea. While Discovery Alliance can not give you patent advice, for your convenience, here is a link to a free US government website describing how to file a provisional patent application. The website states that a provisional patent application
"Provides simplified filing with a lower initial investment with 12 months to assess the invention's commercial potential before committing to the higher cost of filing and prosecuting a non-provisional application for patent".http://www.uspto.gov/patents/resources/types/provapp.jsp
Also for your convenience, below is a link to another free US government website with advice for independent inventors.
